Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: While India’s capital city New Delhi is abuzz with hosting the epoch-making “AI Impact Summit” being graced by Artificial Intelligence (AI) wizards and influential leaders from across the globe keeping pace and abreast with the need of hour and future prospects, the million dollar question that quizzes the elite mass and intelligentsia is: Whether foreign-made or indigenous (Made-in-India) AI will serve the real purpose and be a bona fide tool for common Indians.
Giving an interview to news agency ANI on the sidelines of the AI Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that he wished India to be among the top three AI superpowers in the world being able to build independently AI tools instead of depending on others (foreign hands and brains). It’s because, the indigenously built AI tools could actually serve billions of Indians in their own native languages and dialects.
He further added that the India AI start-ups could not only earn hundreds of billions of dollars but also create millions of employment opportunities. In a bid to realise big dreams, a huge amount of money is obviously needed. In this context, an investment of whopping $200 billion is being reportedly expected by India over the next two years.
Announcing this, India’s Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw also said that $17 billion is expected separately for the purpose of advanced AI research work and translation tools apart from chatbots and health apps that Indian people would use for real benefits.
It has also been informed that the $200 billion will be consumed by ensuring reliable and affordable energy, giant data centres and neatly-run high speed networks (internet/broadband), powerful chips and semi-conductors, while the additional $17 billion will be required for moulding the AI model or the brain trained on vast amounts of data, and last but not the least, the apps that could smartly and promptly answer the queries on health diagnosis and treatment, helping a farmer at the time of need as well as one and all in everyday life.
Now all remain excited to see how India works wonder in the world of Artificial Intelligence and take the world in its stride as there has been no dearth of super brains in India since ancient ages.
Above all the saying goes: “Where there is a will, there is a way”.
